Goodbye: The (After) Life Of Cook & Moore

Cooke & Moore.jpg

Goodbye: The (After) Life Of Cook & Moore comes to Dingwalls for a 7 date run.

March 27 2002. Dudley Moore dies and finds himself in a bar... this must be heaven? Not quite! This bizarre bar is in a comedian's limbo run by his old partner Peter Cook, and they face divine judgment for "Derek & Clive".

Not the best of friends in life, the scene is set for showdown as Peter & Dudley have to resolve their differences, confront their past and face their future in Heaven or Hell. Along the way in this darkly surreal comic fantasy, they are visited by other dead comics whose lives they influenced for good or bad, including Peter Sellers, Tony Hancock, Kenneth Williams and Frankie Howerd.

Some 40 years after Pete and Dud first hit the public consciousness, Cook and Moore are still a much loved, fondly remembered comedy duo, who paved the way for younger generations of comedy talent. “Goodbye” offers audiences a nostalgic peek into the Afterlife of the iconic pair, with plenty of laughs, a host of celebrity characters and just enough vulgarity to bring the double act “Derek and Clive” starkly back to life.

The Mystery Lights

The Mystery Lights

the mystery lights.jpg

The Mystery Lights story begins in 2004 in the small town of Salinas California when friends Michael Brandon and Luis Alfonso – whose shared fondness for groups like The Mc5, Velvet Underground, Dead Moon, and The Fall (just to name a few) – decided to join forces and craft their own brand of unhinged rock and roll. From there they spent the better part of 10 years touring relentlessly before migrating to Queens New York in 2014.

With a live show known for its raw, visceral energy and relentless assault – leaving little to no stoppage between songs – they barreled through countless NYC haunts and DIY venues, quickly amassing a fervent local following. The buzz soon caught the attention of Daptone Records execs who were in the beginning stages of launching a new rock-centric imprint, Wick Records.

Impressed by the groups’ musicianship, groove, endless supply of energy, and understanding of musical history the Mystery Lights were quickly signed to Wick. Though a rock band at heart, the parallels to what Daptone Records had traditionally looked for in their Soul artists was undeniable. Soon sessions were booked with Producer/Engineer Wayne Gordon, and the release of their debut single “Too Many Girls” b/w “Too Tough to Bear” launched to mass critical fanfare.

Pete Murray

Pete Murray

Pete Murray.jpg

It’s an unlikely story… a rising Rugby football star gets so badly injured that he has to leave his sport behind. He picks up an acoustic guitar, teaches himself how to play it and records an indie CD that he sells after shows from the back of his Kombi Van.

His debut album, the roots/rock infused ‘Feeler’ (2003), sold 6 x platinum in Australia (450,000 copies) and earned 12 ARIA Award nominations. ‘Feeler’ eventually spent over two and a half years, yes years, in the Top 100. The acclaimed album spawned his classic ‘So Beautiful’ which went on to become the Most Performed Australian Song of the Year.

In late 2005 his sophomore album, ‘See The Sun’ debuted at #1 in Australia. The first single ‘Better Days’ became a #1 airplay track while ‘Opportunity’ became the biggest song of 2006, earning the most played track at Australian radio. In 2008 Pete released his third album ‘Summer At Eureka’, debuting at #1 in Australia and making it Pete Murray’s third consecutive album to hit the top of the charts. Released in September 2011, Pete’s fourth studio album ‘Blue Sky Blue’ sold GOLD and spawned the hits ‘Always A Winner’ and ‘Free’.

In early 2013 Pete released “The Byron Sessions” an album with new acoustic versions of tracks from his Blue Sky Blue album. Later in the year, Feeler was re-released as a 2CD package – Disc 1 being the original recordings remastered in London at Abbey Road Studios and Disc 2 including the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra playing on all songs.

In 2017 Pete released his latest critically acclaimed album ‘Camacho’ which he toured nationally across Australia.

Pete Murray has repeatedly enjoyed sold out tours across the country, and the rest of the world, throughout his career.

Bad Vibrations is very excited to have incredible “Tragic Wave” duo Drab Majesty at Camden's Dingwalls on 18 September 2019 as they kick off their European tour.

Their krautrock-inspired drum machine beats, swirling synth bass lines and and reverb-heavy guitars are a nod to 80s New Wave and neo-goth, whilst finding futuristic originality in their distinctive androgynous aesthetic style. Their next album, Modern Mirror, will be released July 12th via Dais Records.

Support comes from SRSQ, the 'griefwave' solo project of Kennedy Ashlyn (of Them Are Us Too).

Vistas

14+ (under 16s must be accompanied an adult)

Edinburgh’s Vistas have been surging to the forefront of the indie-rock scene over the last few years with a steady stream of catchy, radio ready releases leading the band to pick up extensive praise from the likes of Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, 6 Music, DIY Magazine and Clash Magazine among many others – With every release defining the band in a clearer light, Vistas now come through with their latest single ‘Eighteen’ which will only continue to solidify their position as clear ones to watch for the year ahead.

Having picked up over 15 million streams and cultivating 650k monthly listeners on Spotify in a short space of time, the Scottish trio have quickly become known for their brand of colourful and energetic guitar-based indie pop and are quickly beginning to show their universal appeal. Vistas will be returning to their relentless tour schedule in 2019 with confirmed support slots for later in the year alongside Circa Waves and Fatherson as well as their own UK headline tour.

The new single ‘Eighteen’ is another high-tempo, hook-laden anthem, full of the huge choruses and infectious melodies that have been cementing Vistas as one of the most exciting emerging bands in the country right now. Produced by Rich Turvey (Blossoms, The
Coral), ‘Eighteen’ comes through as part of Vistas upcoming four-track EP- Their first body of work. Speaking on the track the band explain “Eighteen is about looking back on the best summer
of your life and wishing you could go back to that moment. What often happens when you look back on those moments is you can forget about some of the bad sides of those experiences because your memory is clouded by nostalgia.”

Goodbye Mr Mackenzie

Goodbye Mr Mackenzie.jpg

GOODBYE MR. MACKENZIE- Bugbear are very pleased to present the London leg of the remarkable Goodbye Mr MacKenzie's 'Good Deeds and Dirty Rags' 30th anniversary tour.

One of Scotland's most iconic rock bands will be taking to the road to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of their first album “Good Deeds and Dirty Rags”, which they will play in its entirety, plus perhaps a few extra little treats. Released in 1989 this album entered the UK charts at No.16 and heralded a large, loyal support north of the border. Incredible live shows and singles like the top 40 hit ‘The Rattler’, in particular, further cemented a fond place in many a Scottish heart.

A colourful and varied career followed that involved amongst other things, releasing 2 more major label album, further UK singles chart positions, working and recording with members of the Talking Heads, and touring and playing with bands like Blondie, The Ramones, BAD and Afghan Whigs.

As 'The List' said in their 50 Greatest Scottish Bands review: “The MacKenzies left behind the most complex and fascinating footprint of any Scottish Band. Live they were stunning. Lead singer Martin Metcalfe looked like the MC of a particularly debauched cabaret troupe. While their Scottish counterparts were looking at soul and Steely Dan for inspiration the MacKenzies were taking theirs from the Pixies and the Birthday Party.”

The band have announced 6 gigs so far, 2 of which sold out in the first 3 hours. So grab your London tickets quicktime to be sure to see The MacKenzies in a wonderful, intimate venue.

Live shows in The North have been blowing them away and then some, and now with the very welcome addition of Big John Duncan back to the frontline. Big John is giving his M.S a thorugh kicking by returning to the stage and reconnecting with the healing powers of rock and roll. A beautiful thing

After the release of their new album 'A Prayer For The Loud' last week and entering the Danish charts at #1, D-A-D announce the European leg of 'A Tour For The Loud’.

"This will be the real thing" says D-A-D's lead singer Jesper Binzer. "Playing festivals is fine and dandy, but an hour of D-A-D is just scraping the surface - shows in your local rock club will always be what Rock'n'Roll is all about - a sweaty gathering of the loud... and that's just what we'll be doing! What about you? Are you coming?"

Mclusky*

mcluskyFBevent.jpg

CLUB.THE.MAMMOTH. presents legends Mclusky* at Dingwalls on 22nd November 2019.

Special guests tba!

mclusky were a band between 1999 and 2005, in which time they made a few friends and three albums. Slow-forward 14 years and, thanks to the uncanny pull of nostalgia and gravity, they have made more friends but no more albums. Originally persuaded to reform - like ham - to help save a local music venue and for other vaguely charitable reasons, mclusky* is the band but with Damien Sayell of The St. Pierre Snake Invasion playing bass and singing and is loads better (technical term) than it used to be, nostalgia be twatted directly in the eye.

There is one quiet song, at the start, then the rest is just soup.

Nikki Lane’s stunning third album Highway Queen, out February 17th, 2017, sees the young Nashville singer emerge as one of country and rock’s most gifted songwriters. Co-produced by Lane and fellow singer-songwriter, Jonathan Tyler, this emotional tour-de-force was recorded at Matt Pence’s Echo Lab studio in Denton, Texas as well as at Club Roar with Collin Dupuis in Nashville, Tennessee. Blending potent lyrics, unbridled blues guitars and vintage Sixties country-pop swagger, Lane’s new music will resonate as easily with Lana Del Rey and Jenny Lewis fans as those of Neil Young and Tom Petty.

Johnny Hooker, a performer and songwriter from Brazil who was awarded Best Male performer at the Brazilian Music Awaeds with his first album. His unique take on Brazilian pop music is incredible, mixing local rhythms such as samba, brega, frevo, guitarrada and axe music.

This is a one off exclusive live show so tickets will go quickly...

Johnny Hooker is a performer and songwriter from Pernambuco/Brazil that describes himself as “a fierce woman in a man’s body with tearful eyes”.

He was awarded “Best Male Performer” at the “Brazilian Music Awards” and dazed the musical industry with his first solo album “Eu Vou Fazer uma Macumba pra te Amarrar, Maldito!”, which was chosen as one of the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone magazine. With it, he led us through a journey into passionate love stories in the city of Recife with a combination of rhythms.

Johnny blends local styles like samba, brega, frevo, guitarrada and axé music, seeking to reestablish the identity of his own country and composing unapologetic Northeastern songs that challenge gender and Brazilian expressions.
