DINGWALLS - A Celebration of the Legendary Talkin’ Loud and Saying Something Sessions
"Talkin’ Loud and Saying Something” or just “Dingwalls” as it more commonly known was the session that shaped a generation, in sound, style and attitude it’s influence spread far and wide. It was the counterpoint to the rave generation’s acid revolution, taking same spirit and optimism and applying it to a very different music. It built on the legacy of the Electric Ballroom and the jazz-dance scene that had been bubbling away since the early eighties but took things to a new level. It became the touchstone fro everything that followed in it’s wake, acquiring legendary status, tempting folk to later claim that "I was there” whether they were or not. It was inspirational, revolutionary, celebratory, radical. It was a family, it was a congregation. It was our Paradise Garage. This event has once again reached out and tapped into all that was special and every year it becomes more and more legendary.
GUEST DJ: Mafalda - originally from Portugal, Mafalda will be bringing the sun & her love of jazz, soul & rare grooves to London, where she is now based.
LIVE BAND: Cotonete - Originally starting out in the late 90s, Paris-based 8 piece, Cotonete originally gained fame for renditions of tracks from their contemporaries, the likes of: Deodato, Lalo Schiffrin and Banda Black Rio. Replicating the heavy grooves, sweaty jazz-funk with a nod to the Brazilian warmth and beach breeze.
Fast forward to more recent times, having had their flame reignited by Melik Bencheikh, head honcho of Paris vinyl emporium, Heartbeat Vinyl. He encouraged the band to get back together and over the last two years the band released four EPs of original material - quickly becoming collectors items, and now gearing up for 2019 they are finally ready to present a full body of work, their album debut ‘Super Vilains’.
The band comprising of: Frank Chatona (sax), Christophe Touzalin and Paul Bouclier (trumpets), Benoit Giffard (trombone), David Georgelet (drums), Jean Claude Kebaili (bass), Farid Baha (guitar) and Florian Pellissier (keys)
So along with Melik assuming the role of executive producer they had one goal in mind, to capture the passion and unity Cotonete had always accomplished in their live performances with jazz fusion, balearic disco and integral soul-funk grooves. Keeping those early influences close, but now with more mature characteristics from the likes of: Herbie Hancock, Patrice Rushen and other 70’s Blue Note O.Gs. Super-Vilains on Heavenly Sweetness was released 1st Feb 2019
